バンド名 Symphony X について私の推測
My guesses about the band's name Symphony X (English part follows the Japanese part)
バンド結成当初、サン=サーンスの曲名から取ってDanse Macabreというバンド名にしようとしていたが、日本のレーベル（Zero Corporation）からのデビューだったため、もっと通りが良さそうな名前にするよう要望がありSymphony Xにしたそうです！
そちらのほうが、日本だけでなく世界中でも通りが良かったと思います！
（フランス在住のSymphony Xファン仲間さんからの情報です。感謝！欧州盤CDの付属紙に書いてあったそうです。）
そのサン=サーンスの曲 "Danse Macabre"『死の舞踏』は「三全音/トライトーン/tritone」と呼ばれる不吉な感じを与える不協和音を特徴とする曲。
この「3」が、バンド創設者マイケル・ロメオ氏のテーマ数です（後述）。
アメリカでケネディ政権1961-63年からベトナム戦争終結1975年までに生まれた世代を指す Generation X「ジェネレーションX」という言葉があり、Symphony Xメンバーは全員その世代です。
カナダ出身の著作家ダグラス・クープランド Douglas Coupland の小説 "Generation X: Tales For An Accelerated Culture" (1991)『ジェネレーションX － 加速された文化のための物語たち』から広まった言葉だそうで、Symphony X結成は1994年なので、自分たちの世代を表す言葉として数年前に誕生していた言葉が、バンド名の発想源のひとつになった可能性は高いと思います。
（ビリー・アイドル Billy IdolのバンドGeneration Xの名前の由来になった書籍は別のもの。イギリス出身のジャーナリスト、ジェーン・デヴァーソン Jane Deversonとチャールズ・ハンブレット Charles Hamblettによる、若者の文化についての著作 "Generation X" (1969) ）
X「エックス」は未知のものを表すので、ミステリアスな雰囲気も出ますね。
Symphony「シンフォニー」は交響曲。さまざまな楽器が響きあう音楽。
マイケル・ロメオ氏はクラシック音楽が好きであることを語っています。Symphony Xの音楽にはクラシックの引用が多数あります。

ロメオ氏はSymphony X結成前にはPhantom's Operaというバンドで活動していました。
「オペラ」「シンフォニー」はどちらも音楽によるパフォーマンス芸術ですね。
パフォーマンス芸術と言えば、演劇があります。演劇の世界では、古代ギリシャから「喜劇と悲劇」"Comedy & Tragedy" が物語表現の基本とされ、この2つを表す仮面は、演劇芸術の象徴として世界で受け継がれています。
Symphony Xアルバムアートワークのすべてで、必ずどこかにこの "Comedy & Tragedy"「喜劇と悲劇」の仮面が登場します。その仮面を、ライヴでラッセル・アレンが着けることもあります。デビューアルバムの収録曲には "Masquerade"「仮面舞踏会」もあります。
「喜劇と悲劇」と言えば、その創作における巨人ウィリアム・シェイクスピア William Shakespeare（1564-1616）。作品に『ロミオとジュリエット』"Romeo and Juliet" があり、Michael Romeo氏が、この「喜劇と悲劇」の代表作のひとつと名前のつながりを持っているというのは面白い事実だと思います。
英語 Drama は演劇、物語、を指しますが、その Drama を伝える芸術と言えば文学もあり、Symphony Xの曲には文学の題材が多く見られます。
Drama を伝える芸術といえば映画もあり、ロメオ氏は映画（とその音楽）が好きで、特に『スター・ウォーズ』"Star Wars" のように二極が闘う壮大な物語が好きと語っています。「喜劇と悲劇」"Comedy & Tragedy" の二極ともつながりますね。
そして、ロメオ氏がSymphony X結成前に活動していたバンドPhantom's Operaは、その前はGemini（双子座）という名前でした。「ペア」という点が「喜劇と悲劇」の仮面と共通だと思います。
現メンバーの誕生月が2月（レポンド氏）、3月（ロメオ氏）、7月（ルロ氏、アレン氏）、8月（ピネーラ氏）で、「2, 3」と「7, 8」の2連ペアを2つ成し、冬と夏の二極に分かれているというのも、面白い偶然だと思います！
X「エックス」は cross「クロス」とも読み、cross の動詞は「交差する」「交差させる」という意味があります。
「喜劇と悲劇」、光と闇、善と悪、天国と地獄、のような二極またはペアを交差 "X" させ、シンフォニーを奏でさせ（美しくなるかもしれないし、クレイジーになるかもしれませんが）、音楽で物語を表現する、という意味合いのバンド名なのではないか、と想像しています。
When the band was formed, they were going to name the band Danse Macabre, named after the classical tune by Saint-Saëns. But they were going to debut from the record company from Japan (Zero Corporation), so the company asked the band to change the name to easier one to pronunce and write, so they named the band Symphon X!
I think it's much catchier for not only Japan but also the world!

"Danse Macabre" by Saint-Saëns features "Tritone", a dissonance that gives a dark and uncanny vibe. "Tri = 3" is the important number for the band's founder Michael Romeo (I will mention later.)
I was born and grown up in Japan, so didn't know it but recently learned about Generation X that means the generation born during the term since the Kennedy government 1961-63 until the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. All Symphony X members belong to this generation.
This word "Generation X" came from the novel "Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture" (1991) by Douglas Coupland from Canada. Symphony X was formed in 1994, so I guess it was very possible that this word "Generation X", represents their generation, became one of the hints for the band's name Symphony X.
(Billy Idol's band Generation X was named after an another book "Generation X" (1969), the report about the young people's culture written by Jane Deverson and Charles Hamblett from the U.K.)
X represents something unknown, so it gives a kind of mysterious vibe.
Symphony means harmony of various musical instruments. Michael Romeo talked in interviews that he loves classical music. Symphony X songs have many quotes from the classical music.

Before Symphony X, Michael Romeo was in the band named Phantom's Opera. Opera and Symphony are both musical performing art.
Talking of performing art, play at theater is a big one of them. In the world of theater, "Comedy & Tragedy" have been the basic of storytelling from ancient Greece. The pair of theatrical masks representing "Comedy & Tragedy" have been the symbol of the art of theater worldwide. All Symphony X album artworks have the pair of "Comedy & Tragedy" theatrical masks. Russell Allen sometimes wear it at shows. The debut album has a song called "Masquerade".
When it comes to "Comedy & Tragedy", a titan creator is William Shakespeare (1564-1616). One of his works is "Romeo and Juliet". I think it is a fun fact that Michael Romeo has this common name between one of the legendary masterpieces of Comedy & Tragedy.
Literature is a big art of expressing drama. Symphony X songs have lots of themes from literature.
Movie is a big art of expressing drama, too. Romeo talked in interviews that he loves movies (and its music), especially ones like "Star Wars", epic conflicts between 2 sides. Having 2 sides is a kind of common point with the "Comedy & Tragedy".
Also, Romeo's band before forming Symphony X was Phantom's Opera, and it was formerly called Gemini that means Twins. Being "a pair" is a common point between the pair of "Comedy & Tragedy" theatrical masks.
Also I find it is a fun fact that current members' birth months 2 (LePond), 3 (Romeo), 7 (Rullo, Allen), 8 (Pinnella) makes 2 pairs of 2 numbers in a row "2, 3" and ”7, 8" and they belong to the 2 extremes of seasons Winter/Summer.
X reads "cross" too. I guess that the band's name Symphony X means to make 2 sides or a pair - like Comedy & Tragedy, Light & Darkness, Heaven & Inferno - crossed, let them make Symphony (may be beautiful ones and crazy ones), and express dramas through music.

1. The Damnation Game
"Damnation" は「地獄へ堕とす（堕ちる）こと、天罰」。
題材と言えるかは不明ですが、クライヴ・バーカー Clive Barkerのホラー小説 "The Damnation Game" (1985)『ダムネーション・ゲーム』（和訳1991年）があります。
I'm not sure if this album and Track 1 were named after this, but there is a horror novel "The Damnation Game" (1985) by Clive Barker.
2. Dressed to Kill
"Dressed to Kill" は「（セクシーさなどで）人を魅了するための服装をしている」という意味の表現。この題名のKISSのアルバム (1975) もあり、ブライアン・デ・パルマ Brian De Palma監督のサスペンス・ホラー映画 (1980)（邦題『殺しのドレス』）もありますね。Killはもちろん本当に「殺す」という意味にもなり得ますが、このSymphony Xの曲はそちら寄りであるように思います。
"Dressed to Kill" - I learned that this phrase means "Dressed to fascinate someone (by sex appeal)". Under this title, KISS released the album (1975). Brian De Palma directed the suspense/horror movie (1980). Of course "Kill" can also literally mean it. I guess this Symphony X song leans toward that side.

"The Savage Curtain" はSF "Star Trek"『スター・トレック』のTVシリーズで同名の回あり（1969年初放送）（邦題『未確認惑星の岩石人間』）。私はまだ観たことがないのですが、インターネット上の感想を拝見すると、異なる種族どうしがよくわからない基準によって「善悪」を決めるため戦ったり、アメリカ第16代大統領リンカーン（奴隷制廃止を提唱し反対派が南北戦争の端緒となった）をモデルにしたキャラクターが登場したりする内容のようで、「二極」のテーマと通じるように思います。
"The Savage Curtain"....I found that the Sci-Fi TV drama series "Star Trek" had an episode called "The Savage Curtain" (first broadcast in 1969). I haven't watched it yet but saw some thoughts from people who watched it. It looked like this episode had some fights between different spiecies trying to judge which one is "right" or "evil" by some strange criteria, and there was a character based on the 16th President of the USA, Abraham Lincoln (put forward the abolition of slavery, and the opponents started the Civil War). I guess this episode might have the common point with the "2 sides" theme.

アルバム及びTrack 8の題名はダンテ・アリギエーリ Dante Alighieri（1265-1321）の叙事詩『神曲』（1320年頃完成）が由来。イタリア語の原題 "La Divina Commedia"「神聖な喜劇」の英語題 "The Divine Comedy" の "Comedy"「喜劇」を反対の "Tragedy"「悲劇」に変え、"Wings"「翼」を生やした題名。"Divine wings"「神聖な翼」は、天使の翼のことであると思います。
そしてその天使とはルシファーのことであると思います。キリスト教の物語で、ルシファーは天使たちの中で最も優れているとされるほどでしたが、天界で反乱を起こし、地獄へ堕ちて悪魔の王サタンとなります。Track 8 "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" の歌詞は、その物語を描いていると思います。
歌詞に、ダンテ『神曲』で地獄の門にある碑文 "Abandon hope all ye who enter here"「この門をくぐる者はすべて望みを捨てよ」が出てきます。
『神曲』"The Divine Comedy" は主人公（ダンテ）が地獄→煉獄→天国→もとの世界へ生きて帰還、という方向で旅する物語。
その "Comedy"「喜劇」を逆の "Tragedy"「悲劇」にしたTrack 8では、ルシファー/サタンが天国→地獄へ堕ちる、逆方向の物語。
このルシファー/サタンの物語は、アルバム7作目 "Paradise Lost" につながっていきます（後述）。
9作目 "Underworld" でも、再び『神曲』が題材となります（後述）。
『神曲』はキリスト教の三位一体を表す3を基礎に構築されています（詩が3行でひとまとまり、3の倍数の段落数、全体で3章、など）。
本アルバムも「3」作目。
マイケル・ロメオ氏の誕生日1968年3月6日の数字1968、3、6 は、3とその倍数の3連！そのことが、ロメオ氏がダンテ『神曲』に深く親しむようになった理由のひとつかもしれないと想像しています。
The title of the album and Track 8 was named after the epic poem "The Divine Comedy" (Italian: La Divina Commedia) (circa 1320) by Dante Alighieri (1265-1321). "Comedy" was changed to the antonym "Tragedy", and "Wings" were added. I think "Divine Wings" means a pair of wings of an angel.
And I think that angel is Lucifer. In the story of Christian religeon, Lucifer was once considered as the greatest angel in Heaven but started rebellion, fell to Inferno and became Satan. I think the lyrics of Track 8 "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" is about that story.
The epitaph on the entrance gate of Inferno "Abandon hope all ye who enter here" from Dante's "The Divine Comedy" appears in the lyrics.
"The Divine Comedy" is a story of a man (Dante) who journeys through Inferno → Purgatory → Heaven → and comes back to his world alive.
Track 8, with the word "Tragedy" flipped from the antonym "Comedy", is a story of Lucifer/Satan goes Heaven → Inferno, the opposite course.
This story of Lucifer/Satan continues to the 7th album "Paradise Lost" (mentioned later).
The 9th album "Underworld" is also based on "The Divine Comedy" (mentioned later).
"The Divine Comedy" is constructed on the number 3 (3 lines of the poem make 1 block, paragraphs are multiples of 3, 3 chapters, etc.)
This album is the 3rd one.
Michael Romeo's birth date 1968/3/6 is a set of 3 numbers that are 3 and its multiples! I guess that it may be one of the reasons Romeo got hooked deeply on "The Divine Comedy".

日本の雪女が題材。
Based on a Japanese folklore about a monster called Yuki-Onna 雪女 (Yuki 雪 = snow. Onna 女 = woman). Yuki-Onna appears in snowy weather, looks like a woman, dressed in a white kimono (for corpse or person doing holy rituals of Shinto and Buddhism in Japan), has a very cold body, and kills people by freezing. But she is portrayed as not only a scary monster but also a sad and beautiful loner who can't stay with humans and disappears when got warmed.

アルバム題名 "Twilight in Olympus" の意味は「オリンポス山の黄昏」。オリンポス山はギリシャ神話で神々が住む場所。
もともとは "Twilight in Olympus" という曲を作ろうとしていたが、その名前だけを4作目のアルバム名とし、できていた音楽の断片はアルバム5作目 "V : The New Mythology Suite" に分散して取り入れているとのこと（公式サイト FAQ より。和訳を後日投稿予定です）。
Olympus is the mountain where the Gods live in Greek Mythology.
Symphony X's FAQ at the official website tells that the band originally planned to write a song called "Twilight in Olympus" but eventually they decided to use only the title for the 4th album, and wove the music pieces into here and there of the 5th album.

この曲のレコーディングのとき「マイケル・ロメオがシタールを弾いていたのを覚えているよ」とマイケル・レポンド氏が私に教えてくださったことがあります（Facebookでファンとよく交流されていて私は2015年からやりとりをして頂いていて、2016年のSymphony X来日時と2018年アメリカでのレポンド氏のソロライヴを私が観に行ったときの2回お会いしたこともあります）。そのシタールはロメオ氏の自前で、しかし残念ながら今はもう持っていないとのこと。よく考えてみるとレポンド氏にとっては新しいバンドに加入して初めてのレコーディングでギタリストがシタールをスタジオに持ち込んで弾き始めたということになり、かなりインパクトがあったので「覚えている」という意味かな！と大変面白かったです。
Mr. Mike LePond once kindly told me (he often interact with fans on Facebook. It was since 2015 for me. I even had great times meeting him twice when he came to Japan with Symphony X in 2016, and when I travelled from Japan to the USA to see his solo live show in 2018) that he remembers Michael Romeo was playing the sitar for this song. That sitar was Mr. Romeo's own property but unfortunatelly it isn't now. I was amused by imagining that Mr. LePond just joined a new band and at the first recordings he witnessed that the guitarist brings the sitar into the studio and started to play it...so that he "remembers" it!

初のコンセプトアルバム。アルバム全体が1つの物語。アカシックレコード（原始からの全事象の記録）にアクセスできたというエドガー・ケイシー Edgar Cayce（1877-1945）によるアトランティス文化の透視、アトランティス大陸伝説、古代エジプト神話、占星術、などが発想源。キリスト教の創世記のようでもあると思います。タイトルで示す通り「新しい神話」の物語。
千年紀が変わる、西暦の千の位が1から2へ変わるという、当然ながら1,000年に一度しか起きない体験をすることが、この壮大な内容を選ぶ発想源となったのではないかと想像します。
更に、もっと壮大な約2,000年に1度の、春分のとき地球から見た太陽の位置が黄道十二星座の中のエリアを移動するときが来つつあると言われている中でもありました。これまで2,000年ほどは魚座にあったところ、水瓶座に移る時期が近付いていると20世紀後半から関心を集めるようになっていたようです。
春分のときの太陽の位置を示す星座が変わると、その時代の特徴も変わるとする「ニューエイジ（新しい時代）」思想があります。古い（2000年当時は現行の）時代は「魚座の時代」と呼ばれ、新しい時代は「水瓶座の時代」と呼ばれます。
Symphony Xがこのアルバム5作目から迎えたマイケル・レポンド氏が水瓶座であったりします。すさまじい偶然！先代トーマス・ミラー氏の星座も確認せずにおれませんでしたが獅子座でした。しかしマイケル・ロメオ氏が魚座です。魚座の人が作って成長していたバンドに水瓶座の人が新しく迎えられました。もしかすると、レポンド氏を迎えて誕生日を知って水瓶座だとわかった時点で「水瓶座の時代」やニューエイジ思想のことに考えが行き、エドガー・ケイシーとつながって行ったのかもしれませんね！エドガー・ケイシーはニューエイジ思想に影響を与えた1人であるそうです。
ニューエイジ思想はスピリチュアルな世界に重要性を見いだし、アメリカでは旧来の社会のシステムや価値観に対抗するヒッピー文化と合流。ヒッピー文化の象徴的なもののひとつが V サイン！ヒッピーの人々はベトナム戦争（1955-1975）に反対し「勝利 (Victory)」 の V として示されていたハンドサインを「平和 (Peace)」 のサインとして掲げました。（Vietnam の V でもあったのではないかと思います）
ラッセル・アレン氏とジェイソン・ルロ氏は蟹座で、蟹はデフォルトでダブル V サインをキメている状態ですね。（余談ながら私も7月生まれで蟹座なのでうれしいです）
ニューエイジ思想と通じる文化は音楽界の歴史にも大きなインパクトを与えました。ヒッピーの若者たちを描き "Aquarius（水瓶座）"という曲もあるミュージカル "Hair"『ヘアー』（初演1967年）、ヒッピー文化の結晶のような大イベントであったウッドストック・フェスティヴァル（1969年）、ジョン・レノンとオノ・ヨーコがピースサインを掲げ反戦・平和を訴える姿、楽曲 "Imagine"（1971年）、等々。
本投稿のSymphony Xのバンド名に関する欄で先述の通り、Symphony Xメンバーは全員がGeneration Xと呼ばれる世代で、この世代は1961年～1975年生まれとされているのでニューエイジやヒッピー文化がアメリカで盛んとなったときと重なっていて、Symphony Xメンバーにとっては自分たちが生まれた頃の文化であった、ということになると思います。大人になり、西暦2000年が近付き、「水瓶座の時代」が以前より更に現実味を帯び、世界は「魚座の時代」の終わりである……"V" 制作時、Symphony Xには魚座の時代を振り返る視点と、水瓶座の時代に思いを馳せる、両方の視点があったかもしれないと思います。
キリスト教では魚座を神聖とする考えがあります。イエス・キリスト誕生の頃には春分点での太陽が魚座にあったとされていることに加え、ギリシャ語 Ιησους Χριστος「イエス・キリスト」、Θεου ‘Υιος「神の御子」、Σωτηρ「救世主」の頭文字をつないだ ΙΧΘΥΣ （イクトゥス）は「魚」となるため、魚の形を描いた図がキリストまたはキリスト教のシンボル「イクトゥス」「ジーザス・フィッシュ」「クリスチャン・フィッシュ」として伝わっています。
そして、魚座の形が V と来ています。ギリシャ神話で、神々の宴会に怪物テュポンが乱入、驚いた女神アフロディーテと息子エロスが魚に化身して川へ飛び込んで逃げ、離れ離れにならないようお互いの尾を結んだ姿です。この親子の魚が並んだ姿が「喜劇と悲劇」"Comedy & Tragedy" の仮面のような「ペア」のモチーフとも重なります。魚座の占星術での名称は日本語で「双魚宮」。そして「双魚宮」のサインは X と似ています。
V はローマ数字の 5 なので、このアルバム5作目の題名として自然に思われるわけですが、他にも表しているのではないかと私が思うのは、V サイン（Symphony Xメンバーが生まれた頃にアメリカで起きていた「ニューエイジ」/ヒッピー文化の象徴として）、魚座……そしてもうひとつ！
イタリアの作曲家ジュゼッペ・ヴェルディ Giuseppe Verdi（1813-1901）！姓の頭文字が V です。
アルバム "V" の発売日10月10日はヴェルディの誕生日！
アルバムの開幕 Track 1 "Prelude" と Track 11 "A Fool's Paradise" に、ヴェルディの『レクイエム』"Messa da Requiem" の引用があります。

クラシック音楽を愛するロメオ氏がヴェルディの音楽のファンである可能性は高いと思われますが、引用している『レクイエム』には更にもう1人の要素があります。ヴェルディが敬愛していた小説家アレッサンドロ・マンゾーニ Aressandro Manzoni（1785-1873）の追悼のために書かれた曲です。
マンゾーニの小説『いいなづけ』"I Promessi Sposi" (1827) はダンテの叙事詩『神曲』"La Divina Commedia"（1320年頃完成） と並んでイタリアの二大国民文学とされています。文学や物語を愛し、イタリア系の名を持つロメオ氏が、このイタリアの二大文学者に関連する要素を自身の作品に織り込んだことには、納得と興奮をもってぶんぶん頷けます。
マンゾーニ『いいなづけ』は17世紀ミラノの若い男女のカップルを中心とした物語で、疫病（ペスト）や飢饉や戦争も描かれ、アルバム "V" の Track 11 "A Fool's Paradise" の歌詞と通じます。

2020年に新型コロナウイルス感染拡大が起きる中で、マンゾーニ『いいなづけ』が今一度注目され、私もそれをきっかけに和訳を読みました。作中でペストの流行が始まると、いろいろと2020年と同じすぎて変な笑いが出てしまいました。いや笑い事ではないですが。作中で「ペストなんてないさ」論を張る人が、ではなぜこんなに多くの人が次々と亡くなるのか、という理由として挙げるもののひとつに木星と土星が接近するグレートコンジャンクションがありました。私がその箇所を読んだのが2020年12月22日前後でまさにそれが起きている時期でえらい偶然でした！占星術で、木星（発展、拡大）と土星（制限、抑制）は正反対の性質を持つとされ、接近すると社会に変革が起きるとされています。天体現象としては約20年に1度起きます。
つまり、2000年にも起きたということに気付きました。（調べると5月29日）
"V: The New Mythology Suite" が出た2000年は、20年に1度の木星と土星のグレートコンジャンクションの年、千年紀の変わり目、約2,000年に1度の春分点の移動も近付いてきている、という状況でした。
そしてこのアルバムから現メンバーで固定となり、本当にSymphony Xのニューエイジが幕を開けます。
Symphony X's first concept album. Whole album makes one story. Inspired by the legend of Atlantis, the clairvoyant readings about Atlantean culture by Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) who reportedly was able to access akashic records. Also inspired by ancient Egyptian mythology, astrology, etc. I think it's also like Genesis of the Christian religeon. As the album title says, it's a story of New Mythology.
I imagine that the band got inspired by experiencing the change of the millennium which happens just once per 1,000 years of course, and they chose this epic subject for the album.
Also an even more epic thing which happens just once per 2,000 years roughly was going on too...the Sun's location at the vernal equinox seeing from the Earth, called by one name from the 12 ecliptical constellations, which was Pisces for about 2,000 years, was going to move to Aquarius. It looks like this was getting more people's attention in the latter half of the 20th century.
When the Sun changes its location in the 12 ecliptical constellations at the vernal equinox, our world also changes its tendency - "The New Age" idea arose. The old ("current" in 2000) age was called "The Age of Pisces" and the new age was called "The Age of Aquarius".
At the 5th album, Symphony X welcomed the new member Michael LePond whose astrological sign is Aquarius. What a coincidence! I went to see if the previous bassist Thomas Miller's astrological sign is Pisces, and I found it's Leo. But Michael Romeo's astrological sign is Pisces. A Pisces founded the band, it has grown up and now welcomed a new member Aquarius. It's just my guess but maybe it was like this - the band welcomed Michael LePond, got to know his birthday and also his astrological sign Aquarius, and then it led their attention to "The Age of Aquarius" and "The New Age", and also Edgar Cayce who was one of the big influences to "The New Age" movement!
"The New Age" idea finds importance in spiritual world, and it joined up with the hippie culture in the USA, that opposed the old system or old values of the society. One of the iconic things from the hippie culture was the V hand sign! Hippie people opposed the Vietnam War (1955-1975), and they made the V hand sign which originally meant V of "Victory" mean "Peace" (and V of "Vietnam", I guess).
Russell Allen and Jason Rullo's astrological sign is Cancer (Crab). Crab's hands are double V signs as default. (Btw, I'm glad that I was born in July and my astrological sign is Cancer, too)
The culture inspired by "The New Age" idea gave a big impact to the history of music. The musical "Hair" (premiered in 1967) with a song "Aquarius" depicted young people living with the hippie culture. Woodstock Festival (1969) was a huge event like a crystallization of the hippie culture. John Lennon and Yoko Ono put forward antiwar/peace with showing the V hand sign. And their song "Imagine" (1971), and more.
As I mentioned in the part about the band's name, all Symphony X members belong to the Generation X, the generation born in 1961-1975. It was the same time when the "New Age" /hippie culture was big in the USA. So, I guess that Symphony X members see this culture as what was going on when they were born. And they have become adults, 2000 is coming, "The Age of Aquarius" is becoming more realistic...also the world is in the end of "The Age of Pisces"...so I guess that Symphony X might have the view points of looking back "The Age of Pisces" and looking forward to "The Age of Aquarius" when they were making "V" album.
I learned that Pisces is considered holy in the Christian religeon. It is believed that the Sun's location at the vernal equinox was at Pisces when Jesus Christ was born. And the collection of the initials of Greek words "Ιησους Χριστος" (Jesus Christ), "Θεου ‘Υιος" (Son of God), "Σωτηρ" (Savior) make "ΙΧΘΥΣ" (Fish), so the shape of fish became the symbol of Jesus Christ and the Christian religeon, called "Ichthys (ΙΧΘΥΣ)" or "Jesus Fish" or "Christian Fish".
I realised that the constellation Pisces is V-shaped. Pisces is the portrait of Aphrodite and her son Eros transformed into fish, tied their tails to each other with a strap to avoid getting separated, dived into a river to run from the monster Typhon broke into a party held by Gods in Greek Mythology. I think the portrait of the pair of fish links to the motif of "a pair" like the "Comedy & Tragedy" theatrical masks. And the sign for Pisces looks like X.
V is 5 of Roman numeral, so it's natural for the 5th album's title, but I guess it also represents the V hand sign (as the symbol of the "New Age"/hippie culture in the USA when Symphony X members were born), Pisces...and one more!
An Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901)! The initial is V.
I found that this album's release date October 10th (2000) is Verdi's birthday!
The opening of this album Track 1 "Prelude", and Track 11 "A Fool's Paradise" have quotes from "Messa da Requiem" by Verdi.

Michael Romeo loves the classical music, so I think it's very possible that he is a fan of Verdi. And the quoted work "Messa da Requiem" is related to one more person. Verdi wrote it to mourn the passing of the novelist Aressandro Manzoni (1785-1873) whom he respected very much.
Manzoni's novel "I Promessi Sposi (The Betrothed)" (1827) and Dante's epic poem "La Divina Commedia (The Divine Comedy)" (circa 1320) are considered as Top 2 literature masterpieces in Italy. Romeo who loves literature and story, who has an Italian name, woven the elements from the Top 2 Italian writers into his works...I make big nods with comprehension and thrill.
Manzoni's "I Promessi Sposi (The Betrothed)" is a story about a couple of boy and girl in Milano in the 17th century, and it also depicts plague, famine and war. It links to the lyrics of Track 11 "A Fool's Paradise":

In the covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Manzoni's "I Promessi Sposi (The Betrothed)" got people's attention again, I saw the news and got interested, and I have read the Japanese translation. When the plague started in the story, things were just the same as in 2020 so that I couldn't help having some strange laughter. No it's no joke, though. A person who takes the "plague is a hoax" theory tells some ideas why so many people are dying fast...and one of them was the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn. When I read that part, it was around December 22nd 2020 when the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn was actually happening, so it was such a coincidence! In astrology, Jupiter (development, expansion) and Saturn (restriction, suppression) are considered to have the opposite characters, and when they come close to each other, it brings changes to the society on the Earth. The astronomical phenomenon happens once per 20 years roughly.
So, I realized that it happened in 2000, too. (I found that it was May 29th 2000)
2000, the release year of "V: The New Mythology Suite" was the year of the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn which happens once per 20 years, also it was the year of the change of the millennium, also the change of the Sun's location in the 12 ecliptical constellations at the vernal equinox, which happens just once per 2,000 years roughly, were coming closer.
And since this album, Symphony X gets the current lineup and actually their New Age begins.

Epic song over 24 minutes. Based on Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey" (circa the 8th century B.C.). The story of Odysseus (Ulysses), the hero from Ithaca island of the ancient Greece, goes to the Trojan War, and the war takes 10 years to end, the return journey with tons of troubles takes him another 10 years, so he finally returns to his wife and son after 20 years.

アルバムアートワークはホメロス『オデュッセイア』の中から、魔物セイレーンの棲む場所を通る場面（ホメロスの物語ではセイレーンはこんなにアグレッシブに飛び回ってはいないと読んでわかりました）。Herbert James Draperの油彩画 "Ulysses and the Sirens" (1909)（ウィキペディア（日本語））を元にしていると思われます。この絵はファン仲間さんのTwitterご投稿で知りました。ありがとうございます！
セイレーンは美しい魔の歌声で聴いた者を引き寄せて殺す。オデュッセウスを愛する女神キルケが、セイレーン攻略法を助言。船の漕ぎ手たちには耳栓をさせ、しかしオデュッセウスだけは、セイレーンの歌声を聴きたいなら引き寄せられないよう体を帆柱に縛りつけておけば良い、と。つまりオデュッセウスが自分から冒険度を上げに行っている場面なわけですが、ここがアートワークになっているということは、たぶん「このアルバムを聴こうとしている者はこのオデュッセウス状態だ」と！Symphony Xがセイレーン！（いかつい）
The album artwork is the scene from Homer's "The Odyssey". Odysseus and his crew goe through the place where the monsters called Siren are living (in the story by Homer, Sirens are not flying aggressively like this. I learned that when I read the book). The artwork looks like based on the oil painting "Ulysses and the Sirens" (1909) by Herbert James Draper. (Wikipedia) I got to know this painting from a Twitter post by my Symphony X fan mate, thanks!
Siren kills human by enchanting with its beautiful magical singing voice that pull the victim near. The muse Circe who loves Odysseus gives him tips - let the oarsmen wear ear plugs, but if Odysseus wants to hear the beautiful singing voice of Siren, it will be OK if he let the crew tie him firmly to the mast so that he can avoid getting pulled near toward Sirens. So, this scene is where Odysseus himself is increasing the danger level. And this scene was chosen for the artwork...I guess it means "You all who listen to this album are like this Odysseus!" Symphony X are Sirens! (a bit masculine)

（このブログの名前Paradise Foundは、このアルバムが由来です。Lost「失った」をFound「見つけた」に変えています）
コンセプトアルバム。旧約聖書の創世記第三章「失楽園」"Paradise Lost" のエピソードと、それをもとにしたジョン・ミルトン John Miltonの叙事詩 "Paradise Lost" (1667) が題材。神に造られた最初の人類アダムとイヴが楽園に暮らしていたが、蛇に化身した魔王サタンに誘惑され、食べることを禁じられていた禁断の果実（善悪の知識の実）を食べてしまい、楽園を追放される（失楽園）。
アートワークの薔薇を持った天使は3作目 "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" と共通。その3作目に収録の、アルバムと同名曲 "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" は、キリスト教の天使ルシファーが天界で反乱を起こし地獄へ堕ちて悪魔の王サタンとなる物語を題材にしていると思われ、歌詞は "And all I know is my paradise has begun...."「私（おそらくルシファー/サタン）にわかることのすべては、私の楽園が始まったということだ……」で終わります。そのサタンが蛇に化身してアダムとイヴを誘惑し「失楽園」"Paradise Lost" させるので、アルバム7作目につながります。
イントロ Track 1 "Oculus Ex Inferni"（ラテン語「地獄の目」）でアルバムが開幕し、最初に歌詞があるTrack 2 "Set The World On Fire" は、ルシファー/サタンが主人公であると思われ、サビの歌詞 "And with these wings, we'll set the world on fire" 「そしてこの翼ではばたき、我らは世界に火を放つ（set the world on fire で「大成功する」という意味でもある）」に、"The Divine Wings of Tragedy" と "wings" という言葉のつながりもあります。
Track 10 "Revelation (Divius Pennae Ex Tragoedia)" の（）内はラテン語で、英語は "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" です。
Revelationは新約聖書の「ヨハネの黙示録」と同じ名前。「黙示録」の内容には、7つの教会、7つの封印、7人の天使がラッパを吹く、など 7 が多く現れます。
旧約聖書の創世記では神が天と地と森羅万象を6日で創造し7日目を安息日としています。このことから 7 は「完全」「すべて」を表す数ともなったようです。「7つの海」などの表現があります。
古代バビロニアで既に、円の一周の中心角を360°とすることが成立していたようですが、7は1ケタの数で唯一360を割り切れません。古代バビロニアや古代ギリシャの数学者、幾何学者の間でも 7 はちょっと特別な数とされていたようです。
他にもいろいろ 7 は特別な数という考え方が古来あり、「7人目の息子（と、そのまた7人目の息子）は特別な力を持つ」という言い伝えが西洋世界にあるそうです（"Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" はIron Maidenのアルバム名にもなっていますね）。そして本当にその7人目の息子がSymphony Xの中にいます。マイケル・ピネーラ氏です。（本人インタヴューやソロアルバム1作目のCDパッケージにある謝辞で、6人のお兄さんがいる（姉、妹、弟はいない）つまり7人兄弟の末っ子であると言及）
そんなことをロメオ氏始めSymphony Xの皆さんが放っておくはずはないと思われ、7作目アルバムのための超かっこいい写真でピネーラ氏がセンターを取っている理由は、それもあるのではないかと思います！

そしてセンターにマイケル Michaelさん3人が集まっていますが、天界で反乱を起こしたルシファー（魔王サタン）と闘う天使たちの中でも代表格であるのが大天使ミカエル、英語マイケル Michael です。大天使ミカエルは絵画や彫像などで、剣を持った聖なる戦士の姿で表現されます。
ラッセル・アレン氏とジェイソン・ルロ氏は7月生まれ。
このアルバムの内容とつながる要素（7、大天使ミカエル）をSymphony Xメンバー全員が持っていることになると思います。
7作目のアルバムをちょうど2007年に持ってこられたこともすごい！7月7日発売だったらもっとすごかったですが、海外6月26日でした。ジョン・ミルトンの誕生日か命日だろうかと調べましたが違いました。天体現象も特別なことは見つけられませんでした。そして、4世紀のローマ帝国でキリスト教を迫害するユリアヌス帝に屈せず処刑され殉教した兄弟、聖ヨハネと聖パウロを記念する聖日と知りました。兄弟ということで「ペア」の要素がここでも出てきたので気になります。教えを貫いて殉教した兄弟のペアと、戒めを破って失楽園したアダムとイヴのペアが対照を成しているように思います。
このアルバムを制作中にニュージャージー州で洪水があり、スタジオが水害に遭って大変だったと最近知りました。旧約聖書の創世記を題材にしたアルバムの制作中に洪水に遭うとは！「ノアの方舟はないのか！」と誰か冗談で言ったのではないでしょうか。言ってる場合ではないですが。更に、正式リリースの前に音源がインターネット上にリークされる事件もあったことも知りました。犯人はサタンか？ともあれ、困難を乗り越えてSymphony Xの珠玉の果実がまたひとつ世に出ました！

A concept album based on the "Paradise Lost" episode from the 3rd chapter of Genesis in the Old Testament, and John Milton's epic poem (1667) inspired by that episode. God creates the very first humans Adam & Eve and they lives in Paradise, but Satan transforms into a serpent, tempts them to eat the forbidden fruit, and they get exiled from Paradise (Paradise Lost).
The angel holding a rose in the album artwork is common with the 3rd album "The Divine Wings of Tragedy". Its title track "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" is probably telling the story of the Christian angel Lucifer starts the rebellion in Heaven, falls to Inferno and becomes the King of demons, Satan. The lyrics end as "And all I (Lucifer/Satan, probably) know is my paradise has begun....". Satan transforms into a serpent, tempts Adam & Eve and brings them "Paradise Lost", so it links to the 7th album.
Track 1 "Oculus Ex Inferni" (Latin means "Eye of Inferno") opens the album, and the first song with lyrics Track 2 "Set The World On Fire" is probably the story of Lucifer/Satan. The chorus "And with these wings, we'll set the world on fire" (I learned that "set the world on fire" also means "to make a big success"), so it has the connection by the word "wings" with "The Divine Wings of Tragedy".
Track 10 "Revelation (Divius Pennae Ex Tragoedia)" 's words in the ( ) are Latin means "The Divine Wings of Tragedy".
Revelation is the same name as the Book of Revelation of the Christian religeon. It has many appearances of 7...7 churches, 7 seals, 7 angels blow trumpets, and more.
In Genesis in the Old Testament, the God creates the sky, the ground and everything in 6 days and the 7th day is the day of rest. So 7 means "complete" "everything". There are expressions like "7 Seas".
7 is the only one number of 1 digit that can't divide 360, which is the central angle of circle of the degree measure that was already used in the ancient Babylonia. So, it is told that 7 was considered as a special number by the mathematicians and geometricians in the ancient Babylonia and the ancient Greece.
Thus, it looks like 7 has been considered as a special number in many ways. I learned that the Western world has the traditional belief "7th son (of a 7th son) has special power". (Iron Maiden has the album titled "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son") And a 7th son really exists in Symphony X. Michael Pinnella. (He told that he has 6 older brothers, no other siblings, so that he is the 7th of 7 brothers, in interviews and the thanks notes on the CD package of his 1st solo album.)
I think Michael Romeo and other Symphony X members never miss such a thing. I guess being a 7th son is one of the reasons Michael Pinnella got featured in the center of the band's very cool photo for the 7th album! (please see above! I took the picture from the CD booklet I have.)
3 Michaels are featured in the center of that photo. Michael is the name of the angel who is a major one of the angels fight against Lucifer/Satan. The archangel Michael has been portrayed as a holy soldier holding a sword in paintings and sculptures.
Russell Allen and Jason Rullo were born in July, the 7th month.
So I think all Symphony X members have something related to this album's subject.
It's great that they were able to release the 7th album in 2007! It would be even more special if the release date was July 7th, but I found it was June 26th worldwide. I guessed this date was John Milton's birthday or date of passing, but it was not. I couldn't find any special astronomical event either. Then I learned that it's the Catholic day to commemorate brothers St. John and St. Paul who were martyred by the Emperor Juliunus who persecuted Christians in the Roman Empire in the 4th century. Brothers are "a pair", so this motif appeared again and caught my attention. I think John & Paul who kept the faith and martyred, and Adam & Eve who broke the rule and lost the Paradise, make a kind of contrast.
Recently I learned that there was a flood in New Jersey when the band was making this album, and the studio got some damage. What a coincidence that they got a flood during making the album based on Genesis! I guess someone joked "Don't we have Noah's Ark!?"...the situation was no joke, though. Also I learned that the music of this album was leaked on the internet before the release date. Did Satan do that? Anyways another fruit of amazement from Symphony X was provided to the world!

Prometheusは、ギリシャ神話で天界の火を盗んで人類に与えてしまう神プロメテウス。火によって人類は文明を発達させるが、武器を作り戦争を始めるようになってしまう。現代で「プロメテウスの火」は原子力のことを表す言葉。この曲をNuclear Blast「核爆発」という名前のレーベルからの第一作アルバムにぶっ込むところがすばらしいと思います。プロメテウスはカウカソス山頂に鎖でつながれ、鷲に肝臓をついばまれるが不死身なのでエンドレスという拷問に処される。Symphony Xの皆さんにそこまで意図があったか不明ですが、アメリカを象徴する動物が鷲であったりします。
Based on Prometheus who steals the fire of Heaven and gives it to humans in Greek mythology. With the fire, humans develop culture but make weapons and start wars. "The fire of Prometheus" means nuclear energy in modern days. I think Symphony X rocks because they put this song in the 1st album from the label named Nuclear Blast. Prometheus gets chained to the top of Mt. Caucasus, gets his liver pecked by an eagle but he is immortal so it's an endless torture. I'm not sure if Symphony X members had this idea, but the USA's symbol animal is an eagle.

題名 "Iconoclast" の意味は「聖像破壊者」「因習破壊者」。コンセプトアルバムではないが、人類が自ら生み出した機械と技術に支配され滅亡を迎えつつある世界、をテーマとして制作。
Not a concept album but created with the theme of the world where humans are in danger of extinction, suppressed by machines and technology that human themselves invented.

アルバム全体で1つのストーリーを語るコンセプトアルバムではないが、大きなテーマとなっているのはダンテ・アリギエーリ Dante Alighieri（1265-1321）の叙事詩『神曲』（1320年頃完成）の、主人公が地獄、煉獄、天国と旅してもとの世界へ生きて帰還する物語の中から「地獄篇」。Underworldは「地獄、冥界」。
『神曲』はキリスト教の三位一体を表す3とその倍数を元に構築されています（詩が3行でひとまとまり、3の倍数の段落数、全体で3章、など）。地獄は九圏の構造になっていて、9作目のアルバムで題材とすることに完璧にフィット。アートワークでも地獄の九圏 (9 circles) が表現されています。
アルバム3作目 "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" でも、そのアルバム名や同名の曲に『神曲』（イタリア語 "La Divina Commedia"、英語 "The Divine Comedy"） の要素が取り入れられ、3 x 3 = 9作目である本作でも再訪。音楽にも随所に 3 があります。
Symphony Xサイトの 記事（英語） や日本盤CDの帯にある文で、1曲目 "Nevermore" が3つの音節と3つの旋律で作られていること、ヴァースにはアルバム3作目 "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" の3曲から3つの引用があることが紹介されています。
海外盤発売日2015年7月24日も3の倍数日であり、他にもいろいろあり！それに気付いた私が騒いでいる投稿が こちら です。
Not a concept album, but based on the "Inferno" chapter from Dante Alighieri (1265-1321)'s epic poem "La Divina Commedia (The Divine Comedy)" (circa1320). A man (Dante) journeys through Inferno, Purgatory, Heaven and comes back to his world alive.
"The Divine Comedy" was structured on the number 3 and its multiples in honor of Trinity of the Christian religeon (3 lines of the poem make 1 block, paragraphs are multiples of 3, 3 chapters, etc.) Inferno has the 9 circles, so it fits completely to take it as the subject for the 9th album. The album artwork represents the 9 circles of Inferno.
The motif from this epic poem was picked up for the "3"rd abum "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" too. Re-visited at this "9" (3x3) th album.
The article on the Symphony X official website desciribes:
The first song ("Nevermore") on the album is a three syllable, three note melodic phrase, and in the verses there are three referenes to three songs on the band's third album, The Divine Wings of Tragedy. "There's cool shit like this all over the record," Romeo reports.
The worldwide release date July 24th 2015 was also a multiple of 3, and there were more! Here is my post being lunatic after noticing those things.

9作目 "Underworld" (2015) のあと、次のアルバムまでの期間がバンド史上最長になってしまいました。次のアルバムは10作目……「10」を表すローマ数字は X! Symphony Xの X!! 特に気合の入った作品になるのではないかと期待しています！！
